Adult orthodontics are becoming more and more popular and you would be surprised at how many “mature” patients we currently have! Just because you missed out on orthodontics as a child doesn’t mean you can’t still have a beautiful smile. We utilize the latest technology in our field and this allows us to offer our patients great aesthetic options such as white or clear braces to fit into your adult lifestyle.
Am I too old for orthodontics?
There is no age limit for orthodontics. Teeth are essentially the same in both adults and children. Orthodontists can successfully achieve things such as realigning crooked teeth or correcting a protruding overbite regardless of age. Sometimes a dentist will refer older patients to us so we can help with jaw joint dysfunction. Whatever the reason - it’s never too late to acquire excellent jaw harmony and a dazzling smile!
Does Adult orthodontics take longer than for an adolescent?
Most orthodontists agree that adult treatment will usually take from 10-20 percent longer than a standard child’s case. This is due to the difference in physiologic responses of the tissue in the mouth of an adult as compared to a 12-15 year old. Simply put, an adult’s bone structure is denser and firmly set, so a slightly longer response time to tooth movement can be expected. Lastly, if jaw surgery or periodontal issues are involved we may need to send you out to another specialist and this could increase treatment time as well. For the average case, you could expect to be in braces anywhere from 20-26 months.
How much will it cost?
Fees are charged for each individual case based on complexity and length of treatment. Unfortunately, most insurance companies DO NOT provide adult orthodontic coverage. Our staff is happy to work with you to devise a payment plan that fits your budget.
Specific questions deserve more detailed explanations and the answers to your individual treatment needs can come only after a comprehensive examination and consultation.
